Shooting the Moon
I’ve been wanting to snap some more photos of the Full Moon rising lately so I actually did a little bit of planning using TPE (The Photographer's Ephemeris) to help align a location to the moon rise. The moonrise according to TPE was aligned almost perfectly with the road, the problem was that the road is heavily treed and didn’t offer a good shooting location and the road is a busy one with cars flying past up to 100km/h.

There is another road not far from the above intersection that I’ve shot at before getting some great foregrounds for stormy skies which I figured I’d have a quick look before the moon was to rise. This is when I found a great looking tree at the to of a hill right at end of the road that according the TPE would line up pretty well with the moon.
I opened up Stellarium to have a look and where it shows the moons position and based on the two had a reasonable idea of where I needed to stand in order to line up the tree and moon. I had to quickly adjust my position once the moon started to reveal itself and I kept moving a little bit left and right to get the moon to show in and around different parts of the tree, like between the lower and upper section.
Below is a series of shots, all hand held, showing the light fade and the moon rise, some are composite shots made up of an exposure of the moon and one for the tree and foreground and edited differently.
