Pink Stars

Friday night was one of the most interesting after sunset viewing I’ve seen in some time, for a little over an hour past sunset there was a reddish-pink hue visible to the eye and a little longer on a camera.

I first noticed this on the car drive home from a birthday dinner, as soon as I got home I snapped a shot with my phone, then switched to night shot mode which I didn’t wait to finish and got a nice blurry photo as I was already running inside to get my camera.

I decided I didn’t have much time so left the tripod at home and ran to a nearby oval that allows for some sky viewing. It wasn’t long before I wished I did have my tripod so after a few photos, half too blurry to use as I was shooting up to five seconds hand held I ran back to get my tripod.

Below are some photos taken hand held.

The next set of photos are taken with a tripod with exposure times from 10 - 25 seconds with the skies going more purple-pink and less of the red.

I’m not really sure what caused the hues in the sky so long after sunset but it was awesome to see and shoot.
